Foster Policies

  1. Foster family agrees to take the foster dog to a Val’s Pals approved veterinarian.
  2. Foster family agrees and understand that appointments must be made and approved by the Val’s Pals Medical Coordinator and Board Member in order for Val’s Pals to be responsible for the bill.
  3. Foster family understand and agrees that if they seek non-emergency medical without prior approval or using a Val’s Pals rescue vet, it will result in no payment or reimbursement from Val’s Pals and foster will be help financially responsible.
  4. Foster family understands and agrees if they need to seek emergency medical treatment for foster dog not within regular business hours and cannot get a hold of the medical coordinator beforehand, that Val’s Pals can only reimburse foster if funds are available and may have to be done in payments to the foster family.
  5. Foster family understand and agrees that heartworm and flea preventative, de-wormer, microchip and most antibiotics and pain medications will be provided by the rescue and if adopter chooses to purchase any of these items elsewhere, foster family will not be reimbursed by Val’s Pals for these things, along with baths, nail trims, grooming, etc.
  6. Foster family agrees to bath and give medications, including heartworm and flea preventative when and on the dates and times needed.
  7. Foster family agrees to provide safe housing, proper care and attention and humane treatment at all times.
  8. Foster family agrees to never hit the dog or use any type of physical punishment.
  9. Foster family agrees to house the dog indoors and to never allow the dog outside un-attended, when away from the house or at night.
  10. Foster family agrees to crate the dog indoors when not home or supervised.
  11. Foster family agrees to never transport foster dog in the bed of a truck, secured in a crate or unsecured. Foster dogs will be transported inside the vehicle cab only.
  12. Foster family agrees to not allow children under the age of 18 to feed, walk, or handle the dog in any way.
  13. Foster family agrees to never take the foster dog to the dog park.
  14. Foster family agrees to leash the dog and furthermore use a prong collar or a no slip lead, at all times when leaving the house for walks, vet appointments, events, etc.
  15. Foster family understands that Val’s Pals will not pay for any cosmetic procedures.
  16. Foster family agrees to provide food, water, treats, bedding, toys, etc., at their own expense.
  17. Foster family agrees that foster dog will live as an indoor pet / family member.
  18. Foster family agrees to keep collar and identification tag on the foster dog at all times and it is to never come off.
  19. Foster family agrees to only keep prong or choke type collar on the foster dog while away from the home on supervised and approved outings and these types of collars are to NEVER be left on the dogs in the home, and unsupervised.
  20. Foster family has spoken with their vet about the personal health of their dogs and understands that foster dogs can bring in sickness and disease unknown to Val’s Pals. Foster family understands that this can happen at any time with any new dog brought into the home and understands in entirety that Val’s Pals will not be held financially responsible, or otherwise, for other pets in the home contracting any illness or disease brought into the home by the Val’s Pals foster dog. Foster further agrees that personal pets are all up to date on all vaccinations, do not have puppies under the age of 6 months and all personal pets of the foster family do not have fleas, ticks or any other parasite or illness that could spread to the foster dog.
  21. Foster family agrees to immediately notify the board of Val’s Pals if the foster dog becomes lost or gets separated from the foster family. Furthermore, if the foster dog is not able to be found and reunited with Val’s Pals, the foster family understands and agrees that they will be held responsible for the cost of all vet care the foster dog received to the date of the foster family loosing along with the adoption fee of what would have been charged.
  22. If the dog presents any aggressive behavior or bites while in the foster home, the foster understands and agrees that this is a risk by taking in a foster dog, although temperament test was done prior to receiving the dog. Foster family understands that the temperament of the dog at the time of the temperament test is what the volunteer noted at the time but is in no way a guarantee to the overall temperament or demeanor of the dog. Foster family understands that their foster dog can have a ‘trigger’ that could result in an aggressive reaction by the foster dog and it is impossible to foresee and test for every possible trigger, such as fireworks, storms, balloons, anything the dog fears or is uncertain of. Foster family further understands that if physical, mental or emotional harm is done by their foster dog, that Val’s Pals is in no way responsible, financially or in any other form for harm this dog could do to the foster family. Foster family understands that Val’s Pals is not responsible for any damage to personal property by the foster dog as well. Foster family agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Val’s Pals GSD and Large Paw Rescue, its members, officers, directors, agents and their heirs, administrators, executors, successors, and representatives against any and all claims, known or unknown, nor or hereafter in connection with this foster dog.
  23. Foster family consents to any surprise or planned visits to check on the foster dog.
  24. Foster family understands that Val’s Pals can take the dog back, and out of the foster home, at any time and for any reason whatsoever.
  25. If foster dog becomes ill or injured due to neglect by the foster family, the foster family understands and agrees that they will be held finically responsible for medical care needed due to such neglect.
  26. Foster family agrees to return the dog to Val’s Pals if they can no longer care for the foster dog. Foster family understands that the dog shall not be sold, given away, re-homed, exchanged, or adopted out by the foster family on its own, all adoptions must be done solely through Val’s Pals Rescue.
  27. Foster family understands that they will be responsible for setting up visits for their foster dogs with potential adopters, and agrees to do so.
  28. Foster family agrees to attend adoption evens and fundraisers with foster dog.
  29. Foster family agrees to notify Val’s Pals of any change of address or phone number.
  30. Foster family agrees to abide by all of Val’s Pals foster and non-foster policies and procedures at all times.
  31. It is agreed and understood by foster family and Val’s Pals GSD and Large Paw Rescue that is written agreement sets forth all promises, agreements, conditions and understanding between them, oral or written, and that both parties have fully read and understood all of this agreement.
  32. Foster family agrees to pay Val’s Pals GSD and Large Breed Rescue for any and all expenses, including court cost and reasonable attorney fees, in enforcing the terms and provisions of this contract. Payment of these damages shall not excuse foster family from returning the dog to Val’s Pals GSD and Large Paw Rescue.
  33. Foster family hereby releases, indemnifies and holds harmless Val’s Pals GSD and Large Paw Rescue, its officers, directors, agents and their heirs, administrators, executors, successors, and representatives from any and all liability and claims of any and every nature and cause, known and unknown, now or hereafter, directly or indirectly relating to any Val’s Pals GSD and Large Paw Rescue.
